The Attitude Speech
(6 minute read; 1053 words)
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a motivational speaker and author just like my hero, the great “Zig” Ziglar.
I had the voice for it and the personality. I had plenty of confidence, some good writing skills and I spent a lot of time searching for just the right message—a single message which could become my expertise.
It had to be a message that would stand the test of time, always be relevant, and one that would apply to every single human being on the face of the earth. And, other than the gospel of Jesus Christ, there was only one subject that could do all three.
It would be simple and straight to the point. One theme, one book, in digital format; easy to read and re-read on demand, but also easy to revise, update and improve. There would be one lifetime purchase price. There would be no need to do a sequel or updated edition like you would have to do with a printed book. I have no desire to write or sell books for a living. I just wanted to write and sell one book, one time and fine-tune it on a regular basis. The Attitude Rules would be available only when you wanted it, but especially when you needed it and right there in your phone, which you always have with you — simple rules for how life works, right in the palm of your hand. It would be the “go-to” source for living “a happy, healthy and productive life.” It would become life-changing for so many.
xxxxThe book would unapologetically include a clear presentation of the gospel message of Jesus Christ, because how can you write a book to tell people the truth about life and leave out the most important part about how to be happy, healthy and productive in life without the truth and not include the telling them the real truth, the whole truth, the “Gospel Truth,” the source of “truth” that would literally make them free and live forever? There is only one “TRUTH,” which means that everything else is not truth.
I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the ‘Truth,” the power of God for salvation (from His wrath and rightful judgment) to everyone who believes.
If your attitude and character don’t change and if your heart doesn’t transform, you will always either remain the same.
So, what’s the message I decided to share with the world?
One word. One theme. Eight letters and an exclamation mark:
A-t-t-i-t-u-d-e!
Attitude, attitude and nothing but attitude, so help me God.
I wanted to be an Christian Attitude Coach and Professional Encourager.
A good attitude is the most important ingredient for success in life, both personal and professional, and it shapes and defines the “content” (the ‘characteristics’) of your character. We’ll define “good” in Attitude Rule #2.
That’s some powerful stuff ya’ll!
And every single person already has this power in their possession.
The awesome power of attitude is a learned behavior, influenced by a variety of sources over time and although everyone uses and misuses it all day, every day, most people don’t even know they have this power or don’t understand the power of the power. Too many people don’t know how to use the power and don’t even want to be personally responsible for such a powerful power.
If we all have this power completely in our control, what is our excuse when we fail? Whose fault is it? Who bears the responsibility? Who can we blame? But, with this powerful power “you” accept all the responsibility for your thoughts, attitudes and actions and that is a life-changer. It is what we were all intentionally designed by God to do. Many— most, have yielded this great power either to chance or to others.
It is empowering when you know you have complete control over how you think, act and react.
Habits of thought repeated frequently enough become ingrained as actions and reactions on autopilot called attitudes. Attitudes are a built-in power that automatically trigger your actions and reactions, what you say and do and how you behave in every single moment and circumstance of your life, without even a conscious thought.
Introducing—
The Attitude Rules: Simple Rules for Life
Are You Playing By the Rules?
Remember when you were misbehaving and your parents tried to get you to change your behavior by spanking you or using some other form of discipline or punishment? And it usually worked because you stopped saying and doing what you were saying and doing. You changed your behavior, how you were acting, almost instantaneously, which also changed your the way you were thinking, which caused the behavior. Behavior and mindset are connected and must always be in harmony. One indicates the other.
Behavioral changes work from the inside-out and the outside-in. You can change your thinking and your behavior changes or you can change your behavior and your thinking changes. Both work, with outside-in works quicker and is easier to do. That’s an important discovery. More on that later.
The most important thing about attitudes is that they shape and define the “content” of your character and it is your character that reveals your true identity, influences the important roles you play in life and the quality of life you live each day.
So be careful which thoughts and actions you allow to become ingrained as attitudes— the “characteristics” of your character.
Let me ask you a “rhetorical” question.
What if simply changing your thoughts and attitudes was the difference maker in both your personal and professional lives?
It is!
(I told you it was rhetorical!)
It’s the one thing that can change everything, the little thing that can make a big difference.
By simply changing your thoughts and attitudes from bad to good, your relationships will improve, your performance will be enhanced, your productivity will go off the charts and the roles you play will be award-winning.
The difference maker is attitude, attitude and nothing but attitude, so help you God.
You can either be the master or the victim of your attitudes.
Be the master!
Let’s get started with Rules 1-8 which explain “How Life Works” through thoughts, actions and reactions, habits, attitudes, character, identity, the roles you play in life and the quality of life you live.
