Think On These Things

“Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].” (Philippians 4:8 AMP)

Add things in your life that reflect this way of thinking; your original thoughts or what someone else has said, Bible verses, lyrics that speak to these things:

Whatever is True

(Whatever is not false or lies, absolute, unchanging, indisputable, accurate, honest, grounded in realty of God’s Word)

Think on things that align with truth rather than lies, fears, or exaggerations.

Remembering God’s promises: “God will never leave me nor forsake me.”

Admitting mistakes instead of making excuses.

Reading Scripture and meditating on what God says.

Recognizing blessings instead of dwelling on imagined problems.

Refusing to believe gossip until facts are known.

Whatever is Honorable

(Whatever is dignified, honest, worthy of respect)

Think on things that reflect dignity, integrity, and moral seriousness.

A man who works hard to provide for his family.

A person who keeps his word even when it costs him.

Respect for parents, elders, teachers, and authority.

Soldiers who sacrifice for others.

A coach who teaches character, not just winning.

Whatever is Right

(Whatever is just, righteous and confirmed by God’s Word)

Think on what is morally right according to God.

Returning money when you were accidentally overpaid.

Telling the truth when lying would be easier.

Treating people fairly and without favoritism.

Forgiving someone who wronged you.

Choosing obedience over convenience.

Whatever is Pure

(Whatever is morally clean and wholesome)

Think on things that are free from moral corruption.

Guarding your eyes from immoral images.

Thinking about your spouse with faithfulness and honor.

Clean humor instead of crude jokes.

Speech free from vulgarity.

Respectful thoughts toward others instead of lust or envy.

Whatever is Lovely

(Whatever is pleasing and brings peace; lovable, gracious)

Think on things that bring calmness and beauty to the heart.

Watching a beautiful sunrise or sunset and other things about God’s creation and thanking Him.

A kind word spoken to someone discouraged.

A peaceful home atmosphere.

A loving family meal.

Music that lifts the soul toward God.

Whatever is Admirable

(Whatever is honorable, commendable, worthy of respect)

Think on things that people recognize as noble and praiseworthy.

Someone known for honesty in business.

A teacher who sacrifices for students.

A friend who stands by you in hard times.

Missionaries serving others faithfully.

A person known for kindness.

Whatever is Excellent

(Whatever is virtuous, admirable, of good report, of good repute)

Think on things that show moral and spiritual excellence.

Someone growing in patience and self-control.

Doing your job with excellence as unto the Lord.

A disciplined prayer life.

A believer living consistently with Scripture.

Developing strong character habits.

Whatever is Worthy of Praise

(Whatever things that reflect God’s goodness and deserve gratitude)

Think on things that show moral and spiritual excellence; things that are worthy of God’s praise.

A testimony of salvation.

God’s answers to prayer.

Acts of generosity.

A changed life.

God’s creation and provision.

Instead of thinking about: Offenses, fears, complaints, politics and anger, other people’s faults.

A Philippians 4:8 mindset thinks about: God’s promises, good examples, right choices, clean thoughts, beautiful things, noble character, spiritual growth, reasons to praise God. Things on these things.

Choose thoughts that build godly character instead of thoughts that feed sin or negativity.

Thoughts of Gratitude

Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks to God continuously, for it is He who makes all things possible. God’s will for us include thankfulness and gratitude.

Gratitude encourages an ongoing, positive, appreciative mindset for all the blessings God had given you; both big and small.

Count your blessings. Name them one by one. Count your many blessings. See what God has done!

Pardon for sin and a strength that endureth. Thy own dear presence to clear and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine with 10,000 beside. (Great is Thy Faithfulness)

My sin, oh the bliss, of this glorious thought- my sin, not in part, but the whole. Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, even so it is well with my soul! (It Is Well With My Soul)
