The Evidence of Your Salvation

The assurance of salvation is the Christian’s highest joy. Rejoicing every day with the assurance of two heavens… one to come and one in the present, on the earth. You can enjoy all the blessings of salvation because you know you are saved.

How will you know that you know that you know you are saved?

The inner testimony of the Holy Spirit giving assurance of your salvation and adoption into God’s family. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:16)

The outward fruit of transformation—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23); the characteristics of Jesus.

A changed life—turning from sin and growing in Christlikeness; a complete change in your thoughts, attitudes and actions which should always be Christlike, pleasing to God and bringing Him glory. (Matthew 3:82 Corinthians 3:18).

The visible proof of “real salvation” is a transformed life!

The old you no longer exists and everything about you is new— a new heart, a new way of thinking, a new attitude, a new way of acting and reacting, a new Christlike character and identity and a new way of living your life in Christ.

At the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit replaces your sin-hardened heart with a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26), takes residence within your heart (1 Corinthians 6:19) and transforms your desires, thinking, and behavior to be Christlike.

The gift of the “new heart” signifies the new birth, which is regeneration by the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 11:18-20). The ‘heart” stands for the whole nature. The “spirit” indicates the governing power of the mind which directs thought and conduct. A “stony heart” is stubborn and self-willed. A “heart of flesh” is pliable and responsive. The evil inclination is removed and a new nature replaces it. This is New Covenant character. (MacArthur Bible Commentary)

In everything you say and do, let others hear and see Jesus. Be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about your new attitude and how you have changed and the hope you have, speaking with gentleness and respect just as Christ would do. (from 1 Peter 3:15)
