Righteous Living

Righteous living is not about earning God’s approval— it’s about living out a transformed heart that already belongs to Him. It is a right relationship with God expressed through everyday choices in your thoughts, attitudes and actions. Living right. All of our lives before salvation, we have been living wrong. Unrighteous living.

Godliness — Devotion to God

Simply put, godliness is living a fruitful and obedient Christian life, with devotion to God; a relationship to Him that drives a different behavior from the inside-out… Christlike character reflected in your thoughts, attitudes, actions & reactions… how you think, what you say and how you say it and what you do in the every situation and circumstance in your life and even in the midst of all those trials and tribulations which we all as believers are promised, although covered by His grace, all which should be Christ-like and pleasing to God and bringing Him glory.

Godliness produces: worship, obedience, holiness, contentment, compassion, and witness. It is a life aligned with God’s character, displaying His holiness and love in everyday actions.

Here’s what that looks like in the life of a Christian:

Right Standing First, Right Living Follows

Righteous living flows from righteousness received, not achieved.

You are declared righteous by faith in Christ, not by works. Obedience is the fruit, not the root. You don’t live right to be saved—you live right because you are saved. Your righteousness is credited to your account by the righteousness of Jesus. You didn’t die for you sins. Jesus did.

Identity precedes behavior; it is no longer who you and what you have done, but whose you are in Christ and what He has done for you.

A Changed Heart, Not Just Changed Habits

Righteous living starts internally with love for what God loves, a hatred for what harms your relationship with Him. and a desire to please God, not impress people.

This is the Holy Spirit reshaping motives, not just managing actions.

Everyday Obedience in Ordinary Life

Righteous living shows up in the mundane: The Gospel produces obedience. It consist of honesty when lying would be easier, integrity when no one is watching, faithfulness in marriage, friendships, and commitments and self-control in speech, appetite, anger, and desires.

It’s consistency, not spotlight moments.

Love Expressed Through Action

Righteousness is never cold or self-righteous. Actions include: loving your neighbor (including difficult ones), forgiving instead of holding grudges, showing mercy instead of superiority and speaking truth with humility, not arrogance.

Truth without love is harsh. Love without truth is hollow.

A Willingness to Repent and Keep Walking

Righteous living doesn’t mean you never fall—it means you don’t stay down. It includes: quick repentance when convicted, ongoing dependence on grace, and growth over time, not instant spiritual maturity.

Righteous people aren’t sinless—they’re responsive to God.

A Life That Points to Christ, Not Self

Ultimately, righteous living makes Jesus visible; your words reflect Him, your reactions resemble Him, and your priorities honor Him.

People may not always agree with you—but they should see Christ’s character in you.

Summary of Righteous Living:

Righteous living is Christ living His life through you—by faith, through the Holy Spirit, and for God’s glory.

Thoughts, attitudes and actions. Christlike, pleasing to God and bringing Him glory in everything you thing and say and do.
