The Mystery of Jesus Christ
The apostle Paul, at the end of Colossians chapter 1, speaks of a mystery that God chose to reveal—not after a few days or even centuries, but after thousands of years. It is His perfect plan, unveiled in the perfect place and at the perfect time—a hidden truth now made known. And the beauty of this revealed mystery lies in its eternal value for all who behold it
Why, then, is the mystery of Christ so difficult to grasp? Because God, the divine Author, reveals His Son only to those whom He calls. We must never imagine that we discovered the truth of Christ by our own intellect or insight. Our spiritual eyes remain blind until God Himself opens them, enabling us to see and believe in the Savior. That’s why we must stay in His Word daily.
“Through Christ, God is uniting all things by forming one redeemed people—Jew and Gentile (any non-Jew), together—who share the same promises, the same Spirit, the same salvation, and the same access to God.”
The mystery revealed includes: Direct access to God only through Christ, God’s eternal plan centered in Christ, the inclusion of Gentiles as equal heirs, one new united body, the Church, Christ living in believers, and the Church as the Bride of Christ.
“God’s plan is to make known his secret to his people, this rich and glorious secret which he has for all peoples. And the secret is that Christ is in you, which means that you will share in the glory of God.” (Colossians 1:27)
So, we are to preach Christ to everyone.
“Now when Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’
And they answered, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.’
He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’
Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”
— Matthew 16:13–16
Be Careful Who People Say Jesus Is and How They Explain Salvation
Many religions distort the person of Christ — denying His eternal divinity, incarnation, or equality with the Father and also distort the work of Christ — denying the sufficiency of His atoning death and resurrection for salvation. Here’s what many say:
- Jesus was a great prophet and messenger of Allah; not divine, not the Son of God, not crucified.
- Jesus was a created being—Michael the Archangel in human form; not God, not eternal.
- Jesus was the created spirit brother of Lucifer; one of many gods; a man who became divine.
- Jesus was a manifestation or “mode” of God, not a distinct Person in the Trinity.
- Jesus was a divine idea, not a person; His death wasn’t real or necessary.
- Jesus was a highly enlightened spiritual teacher, not God incarnate.
- Jesus was a moral teacher and example, not divine.
- Jesus was a historical teacher, not the Messiah or Son of God.
- Jesus was the divine Son of God, but salvation requires grace plus sacraments and church mediation.
- Jesus was a moral example and social reformer; divinity is symbolic.
- Died on a “torture” stake and not the cross.
Or, many have no view of Jesus at all:
Generally, no official teaching about Jesus; some modern Hindus may see Him as one of many “avatars” (divine manifestations), but He’s not central or unique.
Jesus is not part of Buddhist doctrine; some see Him as an enlightened teacher, but not divine or necessary for enlightenment.
Shintoism makes no mention or consideration of Jesus at all.
Taoism has no acknowledgment of Jesus; teaches harmony with the Tao (“the Way”), but not the biblical concept of God or salvation.
Confuscianism has no recognition of Jesus at all; centers on ethics, order, and family duty.
Sikhism mentions Jesus respectfully as a holy teacher, but not divine or central.
All wrong. Not biblical. False gospel.
Do not be deceived. So many people are.
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction (hell), and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life (heaven), and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Enter through the narrow gate. Be one of the few.
Who Do You Say Jesus Is?
Read Colossians 1:13-20 – The Incomparable Christ
Peter’s bold declaration still stands as the ultimate answer:
“He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
The Deity of Jesus Christ
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.”
— John 1:1, 2
- The Word (Christ) was God Himself.
- John saw Christ’s return as the Warrior-Messiah-King whose name is The Word of God and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:13 – Revelation 19:16). In this phrase, “God” appears first in the Greek word order, emphasizing the fact that “the Word” (Christ) was God—so “God Himself.” Jesus is God!
- “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” (John 1:14)
- For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Grace to redeem man, truth to reveal God. He was absolutely free of deception.
Jesus is:
Lord — the one true, sovereign God with all authority in heaven and on earth. (Matthew 28:18)
He is the second person of the triune God, fully God just as the Father and the Holy Spirit are fully God. (John 1:1)
The only sinless human who could meet God’s justice and pay the penalty for our sin, (1 Peter 3:18)
The Christ — the Messiah, the Anointed One. (Matthew 16:16)
God incarnate — the fullness of deity in human form, truly God and truly man. (Colossians 2:9)
Both God and man, truly divine and truly human. (John 1:14)
The head of the body, the church. (Colossians 1:18)
The image of the invisible God, the firstborn of creation. (Colossians 1:15)
Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary. (Luke 1:35) (Matthew 1:23)
The One who rescued us from the authority of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sin. (Colossians 1:13)
The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29) John the Baptist is referring to the fulfillment of the need for the Old Testament Passover lambs which was now fulfilled in Christ’s sacrifice, the ultimate and final sacrifice for sins.
Jesus is the Christ, the eternal Son of God — God in human flesh — who lived the perfect, sinless life we couldn’t live, willfully died the death we deserved, and then rose again in victory over sin, death, Satan and all the powers of darkness, granting eternal life to all who would repent of their sins and put their faith and trust in Him.
Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of the Abrahamic Covenant (from Acts 3:25).
Jesus said: “I Am” seven times in the gospel of John. These are His claims to deity. “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35), who gives spiritual and eternal life to mankind (world); “I am the Light of the World” (John 8:12), highlighting His role as Messiah and Son of God- that by through Him you shall never walk in darkness; “I am The Door” (John 10:7), the only way to the Father; “I am the Good Shepherd” (John 10:11), who lays down His life for the sheep through His substitutional death for sinners on the cross; “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (John 11:25), where no resurrection or eternal life exists outside the Son of God; “I am The Way, The Truth and the Life” (John 14:6), He is the Way to God because He is the Truth of God and Life of God; “I am the True Vine” (John 15:1), Christ alone is the source of true spiritual life. If you stay connected to Him, you will grow and bear fruit. Apart from Him, you can do nothing.

Jesus made it perfectly clear who He is when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus declared that He is the way to God because He is the truth of God and the life of God. In this verse, the exclusiveness of Jesus as the only approach to the Father is emphatic. Only one way, not many ways lead to God— Jesus Christ. (The MacArthur Bible Commentary)
When He said “I am the way”… He was saying He is THE way for those who are lost. He is the ONE way, the ONLY way to salvation. Without Him you remain “lost” and condemned.
When He said “I am the truth”… He was saying He is the Christ, the Son of the living God, the divine incarnate Word of God, the deity of God in human form, truly God and truly man, the source of all “Truth” which is absolute, unchanging and indisputable.
And when He said “I am the life”… He was saying that He has “overcome the world” (John 16:33) through His substitutional death and victorious resurrection. He has conquered sin, death, hell, Satan and all the powers of darkness, and through repentance, faith, and trust in Him, you too will share in that victory and have eternal life.”
The Savior, Jesus Christ, described so powerfully by the prophet Isaiah, has appeared with the offer of salvation for all. Ultimately, in God’s own time, Jesus will return to earth and then all things truly will be set right. (from Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6).
Isaiah prophesized the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus over 700 years before they happened.
“For as many as are the promises of God, in Him (Jesus) they are ‘yes.’ Therefore also through Him (Jesus) is our ‘Amen’ to the glory of God through us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
All of God’s OT and NT promises of peace, joy, love, goodness, forgiveness, salvation, sanctification, fellowship, hope, glorification and heaven are made possible and fulfilled only in Jesus Christ! Yes and Amen, which means “truth,” “certainty,” “faithfulness,” or “so be it.”!
The Ascension of Jesus Christ
The ascension refers to the moment when the risen Savior returned to Heaven, forty days after His resurrection. He physically rose into the clouds in full view of His disciples and took His rightful place at the right hand of God the Father. This event is recorded in: Acts 1:9–11, Luke 24:50–53 and Mark 16:19.
Key Points of the Ascension of Christ
- His redemptive work was finished, so Jesus returned to the Father.
- The ascension declares that Christ is now:
- Reigning as King and Lord over heaven and earth.
- Exalted above all rule and authority.
- Seated at the right hand of God.
- It proves His divine identity and His return to the glory He had with the Father.
- It began His ongoing heavenly ministry, interceding for believers, advocating for us when we sin and representing us before the Father.
- At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came because Christ ascended.
- This launched the Church age and empowers all believers for ministry.
- It guarantees our eternal life, our resurrection, and our eternal place in heaven.
- It marks the beginning of the one true Church carrying the gospel to the world through the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19)
- It points directly to His Second Coming: “This same Jesus… will come back in the same way you saw Him go.” (Acts 1:11)
Surrender to Christ today, repent and put your faith and trust in Him.
