Sanctification is the life-long process of growing as a Christian by obedience to God through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the process of changing, growing and becoming more like Jesus every day, until God calls you home.
As a part of the sanctification process of the new Christian, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live a life that reflects the content of the character of Jesus Christ. This includes producing spiritual fruit (actions), such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Christlikeness. (Commit the fruit to memory and live them out). You reap what you sow.
Here are some simple definitions of “the fruit.”
Love– Love means that someone is very important to you, a very high priority, which is expressed in how you treat them and what you do for them; serving God and others by putting their interests before your own is a major expression of love; that is, learn to unselfishly seek the best for others and to do things for their benefit).”
Joy– Ongoing happiness that flows from your heart because of your faith in Christ and is not determined by ever- changing external circumstances.
Peace– Free from internal and external distress; anxiety, fear, doubt, pressure, for example.
Patience– Steadfast and calm despite opposition, difficulty, adversity or inconvenience; a good attitude when waiting.
Kindness– Friendly and forgiving toward your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Goodness– means being helpful, constructive and productive. It’s morally excellent. It’s positive and desirable in nature. Good is the nature of God. God is good all the time and through faith in Him we can also be good and good just doesn’t get any better than that. Bad is the opposite of good. Bad is never good.
Faithfulness– The act of being true to your word and commitments, as to what you have promised to be and do.
Gentleness– A mild, kind, or tender temperament.
Self-Control– Discipline. Doing things the way they are supposed to be done; self-restraint.
Be able to give a simple definition of each and then live them out daily, calling on a specific fruit that is useful in any particular situation that occurs throughout the day.
