Jesus, Our Savior and Redeemer
Who Do You Say That Jesus Is?
Peter’s bold declaration still stands as the ultimate answer: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)
Yes, Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the anointed one), the Son of the Living God!
Be careful who others say Jesus is and how they explain salvation.
“He who is not with Me [once and for all on My side] is against Me; and he who does not [unequivocally] gather with Me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30 AMP)
“Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.” (1 John 2:23)
The Preeminence of Christ!
The preeminence of Christ means that Jesus holds first place in everything. He is the eternal Son of God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, the perfect image of the invisible God, and the only Savior of sinners. All authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him, and everything exists through Him and for Him. He is the head of the church, victorious over sin and death through His resurrection, and worthy of all worship, honor, and obedience. In all things, Christ is supreme.
The Incomparable Christ! (from Colossians 1:13-20)
God saved us and brought us out of the power of darkness (of Satan) and into the kingdom of His beloved Son, Jesus. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we have redemption and are set free, our sins are forgiven, and the penalty for our sin is completely removed. Jesus shows us exactly what God is like.
He is the exact visible image of the invisible (unseen) God, revealing 100% of the nature and character of God; that Jesus is God Himself. He is above all creation, first in rank, authority, and power. Everything in heaven and on earth was created by Him—things we can see and things we cannot see, including all rulers, authorities, and powers. Everything exists through Him and for Him.
Jesus existed before anything else and He holds everything together. He is the head of the church— His people. He is the firstborn of the dead so that He alone holds first place, He is preeminent in everything. God was pleased for all of His fullness of deity—the sum total of his essence, His nature, powers, and perfection—to live completely (and permanently) in Jesus.
And through Jesus, God brought sinners back into a right relationship with Himself, making peace with believers by the blood Jesus shed on the cross, and all things in the created universe will ultimately be brought back under Christ’s righteous rule and perfect order— not that all people will believe, but that all will ultimately submit—so at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
“In the beginning was the Word, Jesus, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” — (John 1:1, 2) Jesus is deity.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” (John 1:14) Jesus is God incarnate.
He is the Savior who delivers us from sin and death.
For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Grace to redeem man, truth to reveal God. He was absolutely free of deception.
He is the second person of the triune God, fully God just as the Father and the Holy Spirit are fully God. (John 1:1) God the Son – Jesus, who accomplished salvation through His sinless life, substitutional death and victorious resurrection (John 19:30).
God’s perfect plan of redemption required that a sinless human being pay the penalty for sin on behalf of believers. But there was not a single person who was without sin and able to do this.
So that sinless human being had to be God Himself— God incarnate, God in human form, truly God and truly man— Jesus. He was born of a miracle virgin birth, willfully became that perfect, sinless substitute, “the perfect lamb,” who took your punishment and died in your place. (John 1:14)
Christ’s substitutionary atonement was as the sinless “perfect lamb” (1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5-6), ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” — John 1:29
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
When He said “I am the way”… He was saying He is the ONE way, the ONLY way to salvation. Without Him you remain “lost” and condemned.
When He said “I am the Truth”… He was saying He is the divine incarnate Word of God, the deity of God in human form, truly God and truly man, the source of all truth which is absolute, unchanging and indisputable.
And when He said “I am the life”… He was saying that because of His death and resurrection and by accepting His grace through genuine repentance and saving faith, you are no longer “dead” in your sin and have been granted eternal life. Jesus died so you could live.
The resurrection of Jesus is proof of God’s acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice and the guarantee of eternal life to all who genuinely repent and put their faith and trust in Him. (Romans 4:25)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in human history.
It is the foundation of our hope for eternal life.
