[Truth 1 of 12; 7 minute read]
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
This is the greatest miracle in the Bible. If this verse is true, then there’s a really good probability that the others are true as well. If you can’t believe Genesis 1:1, then you’ll have a hard time believing John 3:16 or Revelation 21:1-4.
The Bible reveals that there is a greater, supernatural, infinite Being, a mind who is not physical or material, an eternal spirit outside of space, time and matter, who has always been and always will be.
He is the Great “I Am.”
He is the Uncaused, First Cause of the universe and everything that is in it. He is the “Chief Builder” who in the beginning set all things into motion, giving life to everything and establishing the laws of nature and His perfect standard of righteousness. The Universe could not have created itself. Nothing in nature comes from nothing. Everything must come from something; cause and effect just like science requires, so there must be an initial cause, a first cause that wasn’t caused by anything else. (Adapted from the writings of Jeff Miller, Ph.D. (Apologetics Press)
And since the universe began to exist as we all can plainly see, there had to be a causal agent before space, time and matter who created our universe and that causal agent must have always existed. (A causal agent is a factor or entity that directly brings about an effect or condition). The “effect” (the universe and everything in it) must have a “cause.” And that causal agent, the “Cause” who spoke this world into existence is GOD, the Judeo-Christian God, Jehovah God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of the Bible, the God of the Christians, the miracle-working God, the only God who makes salvation possible, the Father Almighty. He is not just called “a god,” His name IS GOD, the great “I Am” who existed before space and time. He is “I Am” because He was the only one who existed before time began.
This world is His creation and He gets to make the rules and set the standards for life in His world whether you like it or not because He is God. He is the one true, supreme and sovereign God and He is the only living God. Besides Him there are no other gods. All the other gods were created by man, and are false gods, presenting deceptions and confusion, in an attempt to keep you from salvation and Satan, God’s enemy, along with his demons, is the source of it all.
The calculations of Oxford mathematician Roger Penrose show the improbability of a universe conducive to life occurring by accident, luck and chance is one in 10¹⁰¹²³; (ten to the ten thousand one hundred and twenty third power). The phrase “extremely unlikely” is inadequate to describe this possibility. It is not just extremely unlikely, it is “impossible!” It is hard to even imagine what this number means.
In math, for example, the value of 10¹²³ (10 to the 123rd power); 1 followed by 123 zeros; here’s what that number looks like: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
This is more than the total atoms (the smallest unit of matter) believed to exist in the universe; 10⁷⁸ (ten to the 78th power), one with 78 zeros. But Penrose’s answer to life occurring by accident, luck and chance is much more than this: it requires one followed by 10,123 zeros or 3374.33 sets of three zeros! This number is so large that it exceeds the capabilities of typical calculators and computers to represent it directly. As biochemists discover more and more about the awesome complexity of life, it is apparent that its chances of originating by accident are so minute that they can be completely ruled out.
Everything in the Universe was precisely and meticulously planned by God before time began and then He fine-tuned it and continues to this day to fine-tune it all to perfection and not one single thing was random or by chance.
The Conclusion: Intricate design in life required an intelligent designer, a causal agent, the Uncaused First Cause… and the most reasonable view is God Himself.

Both deism, which means there is one true, creator God, and theism, which means that God is a personal being with a sustaining, loving relationship with his human creations, have been historically and scientifically established through scripture and nature.
God created the massive universe with all of its complexities for only one reason… the redemption of human beings from sin and evil. It can only be described as “awesome.” With over 200 billion galaxies and approximately 400 billion, trillion stars, if one piece was missing or misplaced or if not enough time had passed, if the Creator had not fine-tuned it all to perfection, human life on this tiny blue speck called Earth could not have existed. And if the earth was just a little closer to the sun, we would all burn up. If it was just a little further away, we would all freeze to death. Earth is the only place in this enormous universe where human life could exist, but only for a certain period of time, which we are in now. The Big Bang has been proven to be true and it parallels with the Christian notion of creation from nothing and the “Big Banger” is God himself. Now that you know this, you can never, ever describe anything else as “awesome.”
Homework: Find out more about the God who created the heavens and the earth:
This video will open in another window.
He is ONE God, revealed in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit who each have vital roles in your salvation; God who purposed it through His divine and perfect plan, Jesus who accomplished it through His death and resurrection and the Holy Spirit who applies it through your spiritual rebirth. God the Father is the Creator and Sustainer of all things; God the Son (Jesus Christ) is the Word (of God) made flesh, who came to earth, lived a sinless human life, died, and was resurrected to provide salvation for humanity; God the Holy Spirit is the presence of God active in the world today, dwelling within the “new” hearts of believers, guiding, convicting, comforting, and empowering them.
The Holy Spirit is fully God in the same way that the Father and the Son are fully God. They were all here before time began, all involved in the creation, ONE God in three distinct persons; the Godhead, the Triune God, the Triunity, the “blessed” Trinity.
He is the God who said, “Let ‘Us’ (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) make man in ‘Our’ image,” (Genesis 1:26 AMP). You and all other persons ever born were created in His image and all those who will be born will be created in His image. “So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27 AMP)
He is the God whose “Truth” inspired words are found in the 66 books of the Holy Bible, by far, the most read book in the history of the world, accurate “Truth” from Genesis to Maps. “All scripture in His Bible are breathed out of God’s mouth and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for the training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete and equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
He is simultaneously transcendent, which means He is not limited to space and time like we are, nor is He limited by any other possibly existing dimensions which exist only because He created them and He is immanent, always present and operating within space and time and all other possibly existing dimensions.
He is omnipotent with unlimited power as evidenced by His creation of the universe, the virgin birth and the resurrection of Christ. He is omnipresent and is everywhere, all the time. He is omniscient and He knows everything… the past, the present and the future, all at the same time.
“He is the righteous God.” (1 John 3:20) He sets the standard for righteousness. It defines His character. He is perfectly perfect and always does what is right in every circumstance. “Every action God takes towards you will always be right, just, and honest.” (Psalm 145:17)
He is the Holy God. “In Him, there is not even the faintest trace of evil.” (Psalm 77:13)
He is the definition of Truth. Anything is true only because He says it’s true. Truth itself proceeds from the nature of God.
He is an unchanging moral being whose nature is the standard of goodness.
He is impeccably pure, wholly without fault, and uncompromisingly just. God cannot lie. He cannot make wrong decisions. He cannot sin or even be around sin or sinners. He does not break His promises.
He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, from everlasting to everlasting. He is the God who “was” and the God who “is” and the God who “evermore shalt be!”
But of all the great things our God is (and there is much, much more), most importantly He is the God of love, mercy and grace. He is the definition of love and clearly demonstrates and proves His love for you, that while almost 2000 years before you were even born, God Himself through His son Jesus, died on a cross, once for all, to pay the penalty for your sins and the sins of all mankind. No other “god” loved sinful man so much that He would die for him. No other “god” was ever raised from the dead to give you eternal life. There is no other true and living God.
The Truth is this: God is THE God with a capital “G” and His name IS God and there is not any person or any thing in this world that can change that or separate us from His love. God is who He said He is and He will do what He said He would do. He keeps His promises and Jesus is our living hope for those promises which are sealed by His Holy Spirit.
In summary, plain and simple… God Is!
How great is our God!!!
